Through history, the arts have been a beacon of progressive and creative expression.
They have also been an integral part of education, religion and belief systems of
most societies. The arts mirror social realities. They also provoke thought and
deliberation and can bring about
social change. The UNFPA-CMS Arts for Social Change Awards:
First National Painting Competition 2008 is driven by the conviction that art is an effective and
powerful tool for communication, education and social action and can challenge deep-rooted
