Why only delighting in daughters is the theme selected for this competition?
As we know, women are at the center of the development process. Even as women today
are making their mark felt in all spheres of life the statistics continue to demonstrate that violence
against girls and young women is a pervasive and deeply entrenched feature of Indian society. It is a
disturbing fact that while on one hand society is vibrating with women confidence and positive energy on the
other hand it is killing the unborn girl child.
Why only painting students selected for the competition?
| Through history, the arts have been a beacon of progressive and creative expression.
They have also been an integral part of education, religion and belief systems of most societies.
The arts mirror social realities. They also provoke thought and deliberation and can bring about social
change. |

Who can participate?
Only Indian bonafide students pursuing the BFA Final Year Painting courses and MFA Final Year Painting courses are eligible to contest.
Second year students will be able to participate in next year’s competition, so register your interest for participating on the website.
Why only BFA and MFA students (Final Year)?
The competition will provide a platform to the final year students,
(who will be stepping out of their institution into the art market) to showcase their art and
highlight the message behind the competition. This will also help in kick-start their career by
also associating with a social cause. The junior students would be getting a chance next year as
the competition is held every year.
It will be unfair to ask school kids or other untrained artists to compete with senior and
trained students of BFA and MFA. Even though we believe that an artist could have an in-born
talent too.
How many paintings invited from College and Students?

Paintings with a positive portrayal of the girl child and countering stereotypes will certainly carve a way towards greater public awareness and a more conscious, informed and sensitive society. |

Why only realistic and semi abstract painting?
The paintings will be reproduced as materials which a common man would use in his office, household or in public places. These are calendars, diaries, greetings, paper bag, e-greetings, posters etc. A common man therefore should understand the paintings and be able to comprehend the message. An abstract painting is understood only by few people.
